Jurassic World Evolution Insights
Here’s what i think about Jurassic World Evolution, A few days ago, Jurassic world evolution, the theme park simulation games from the creators of planet coaster was released. Much to the delight of dinosaur, jurassic park and jurassic world fans the world over. However the big question on everyone’s minds is, is it actually good? How does it hold up to it’s predecessor in the franchise, operation genesis? The answer is well, not great.
The game was released missing a lot of content that one would expect in a game, i’ve put in 10 hours now and graphically, the game is fantastic, texture and model quality is fantastic and the animation is lacking complexity but it does hold up. The disappointment is in the depth of the game, i will explain that below.
Guests have no souls or personalities
You cannot click guests, this is perhaps the biggest upset of the game for me, it’s just random 3d models walking around, occasionally stopping, they cannot be interacted with aside from dinosaurs attacking them if they are set free. There were so many possibilities if you could interact with them and if they had depth, e.g. guest desires, needs, wealth. They have no need to eat, use the restroom or sleep, but then, that’s another issue, the dinosaurs don’t either, in fact, there’s no day or night system.
Dinosaurs don’t sleep or have any depth
There’s no day or night system in the game, guests don’t sleep and neither do the dinosaurs which are the main centerpiece of the game, they endlessly roam around, doing nothing, occasionally eating, drinking, they do not socialise, to put it simply the A.I. developed for them is poor and not complex, if you watch a dinosaur for long enough you realise this as it’s completely predictable, especially for carnivores.
A.I. is poorly developed
Velociraptors in Jurassic park are well known for their intelligence but in jurassic world evolution velociraptors are rather basic, if they don’t meet their requirements which in part is having 2-4 raptors in the same paddock, they will endlessly attack walls, concentrate walls, that they will demolish in seconds ( Totally realistic right? ) Carnivores and herbivores alike in this game have been developed to attack their paddock and break out if their needs are not met but it’s completely unrealistic, a few hits by the dinosaur and they are free and then the next problem of manual interaction to resolve it, begins.
Repetition, repetition, repetition
This is perhaps the biggest annoyance in the game, the in-ability to automate or setup scheduled tasks. You have to manually tell highly educated rangers to do their job, that is, tell them to refill feeders, medicate dinosaurs, repair a powerplant wall or building. It might seem fine when the park first starts up, but when you’re managing 300 dinosaurs, it’s no longer fun, it’s frustrating.
